Magalhães & Santos is a gallery specializing in Old Masters and 20th-century design based in Malasaña, Madrid. Founded in 2024 by Friedrich Magalhães and Enrique Santos, it aims to frame Old Master paintings in a contemporary context, not only in museums but also in private spaces and so demonstrate that great art is timeless.

Fiedrich Magalhães

Friedrich Magalhães studied law at the University of Bayreuth, Germany, where he worked in the International and Constitutional Institute of professor Peter Häberle, researching and translating judicial studies in different languages. He later redirected his passion for art and turned it into his profession. He began his career at Coll & Cortés gallery and continued at Colnaghi and Nicolás Cortés gallery, where he oversaw acquisitions, research and discoveries, before setting up on his own.

He is an enthusiast of Spanish Golden Age art, which he studied for years in depth at the Prado Museum. He is a firm advocate of the fact that a specialist in painting and sculpture must, above all, have a trained eye for condition and quality.

Enrique Santos

Enrique Santos continues the family tradition, inheriting his passion for art and making art dealing his profession. He graduated in Law with specialization on Historical Heritage at the Carlos III University and specialised in the art market at the Sotheby’s Institute of Art in London. He has worked at Nicolás Cortés gallery as Acquisitions and at Setdart Auction House, where he was responsible for the Old Masters and 19th century paintings department. Currently, he also teaches on the MBA in Art Business at the CEU San Pablo University and collaborates on the Diploma of Specialisation in Art Market Law at the Carlos III University of Madrid.

Thanks to this combination of knowledge, applied to the study of works of art and an understanding of the functioning of the market in its broadest sense, Santos has specialised in analysing gallery purchases and sales from all angles, from the historical-artistic to investment.
